Fact sheet summary

What it is

BPC-157 is a synthetic peptide made of 15 amino acids. Research areas include tendon and ligament repair, gut lining protection, wound healing and inflammatory pathways. Most supporting research is in cells and animals.

Human reports

The sheet discusses small uncontrolled studies of knee pain and bladder pain syndrome, including a pilot in 12 women. The bladder treatment was delivered directly to the bladder. Without a control group, improvement does not establish that BPC-157 caused it, or that another form of use would have the same effect.

Women’s health

Reliable clinical benefits for gut health, hormone balance, menopause symptoms and fertility are not established. Reports about individual symptoms should not be read as proof of effectiveness.

Safety and the Australian context

The sheet identifies BPC-157 as investigational and not TGA-approved. Side effects, interactions and long-term risks are not well characterised. Safety during pregnancy and breastfeeding has not been established. Athletes should check current anti-doping rules.
