What it is

Retatrutide targets GIP, GLP-1 and glucagon receptors involved in appetite, blood glucose and energy regulation. The fact sheet describes an investigational medicine, not a TGA-approved treatment.

Research areas

Studies explore weight management, type 2 diabetes, fatty liver (MASLD), knee osteoarthritis pain, obstructive sleep apnoea, and heart and kidney outcomes. Research areas are not approved medical uses.

What findings mean

Trials have reported weight loss and improvements in blood glucose. Selected study groups have also reported reduced knee pain and sleep apnoea severity. Long-term heart and kidney protection remains under investigation. Results depend on the population and study protocol.

Safety and the Australian context

Reported side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, constipation and altered skin sensation. Long-term safety is still being studied. Trial findings do not establish the safety or contents of products sold online.
