One reason I am following amylin is that it gives us something new to investigate beyond the familiar GLP-1 conversation. Eloralintide acts on the amylin pathway without a GLP-1 component.

There is also a separate combination update dated 1 October 2026: EloraTZP pairs eloralintide with tirzepatide in people with type 2 diabetes. That is not the same trial as the eloralintide-only study here.

Who was studied?

Billings and colleagues followed 263 adults with overweight or obesity, without diabetes, for 48 weeks. They were assigned by chance to eloralintide or placebo. There were 204 women, or 78% of participants. The paper appeared online in November 2025 and in The Lancet’s December issue. [1]

The highest-dose group’s average weight reduction was about 20%. Lilly reported it more precisely as 20.1%, compared with 0.4% for placebo. The calculation estimated results under continued treatment; it is not a promise for everyone who starts. [1] [2]

What was treatment like?

Stomach and bowel symptoms and fatigue were among the common adverse events. Higher doses generally brought more difficulties, and how the dose was increased affected the pattern. Lilly funded the study and has a commercial interest. [2]

This was a comparison with placebo, not with semaglutide, the active ingredient in Ozempic, or with CagriSema. We cannot use it to say eloralintide is easier to tolerate than those medicines. A trial containing many women is not automatically a menopause trial.

What I want to follow next

This is evidence of weight reduction in a controlled Phase 2 study. I still want to know about longer use, why people stop, strength, everyday function and different stages of women’s lives.

The weight result is worth attention. It is the beginning of those questions, rather than the answer to all of them.
